About Us

Welcome to our 2020 Holiday Season

The White family moved to Chycara in the 1990’s to escape the chaos of city life. Seeking green spaces, trees and time & space to unwind. Chycara House delivered in abundance and the family fell in love the moment they laid eyes on it.

Head groundskeeper David started work here merely days later and began sculpting the landscape in this 16-acre valley plot, into something extraordinary. He helped transform the grounds into useable lawn spaces, natural ponds and rugged flower beds. The central stream that runs through the garden splits the grounds into 2 halves and provides a distinct focal point for guests staying on site.

When the family opened the doors to the guest house in 2009, they had one idea in mind for what the business should be. Chycara has always been a place for family and friends to spend time relaxing and enjoying the open space and a glass of wine or two. With a focus on rejuvenating weary guests and naturalising them to the unique and rural lifestyle enjoyed by so many in Cornwall.

Now in 2020 our mission statement reflects this:

“Chycara is a hidden gem in the heart of Cornwall. Guests staying with us are treated like old friends coming back to stay. All our lodges are spaced out beautifully within the grounds giving everyone a sense of privacy and comfort. We put ourselves on first name terms with all our guests and strive to provide a relaxing base for them whilst in Cornwall.”

Located in an area of nature conservation importance

Nestled in the quiet and characterful Bissoe Valley, the property is located perfectly for exploring Cornwall. It provides easy driving access to many of the top attractions in Cornwall making it great for longer stays.

Chycara was born as an old livestock farm but was gradually extended over time. What was once a family home has now grown into a family friendly holiday site open all year round. With leisure facilities including a swimming pool and tennis court, Chycara offers plenty to entertain families whilst on site.

Unique to Bissoe valley is over 60km of cycle trails that span the entire North to South of Cornwall. One of the intersections is merely a stone’s throw from Chycara, making it a fantastic location for keen cyclists or walking enthusiasts. Also situated nearby are the beautiful gardens of Trelissick house, managed by the National Trust. This leads to miles of stunning walks around the river Fal which can be crossed by the famous King Harry Ferry.

Many guests of Chycara see it as a second home and return year after year. Regular’s Eva & Gerald had this to say:

“It was delightful as always. We felt very welcome and also enjoyed meeting the other guests.
It feels very much like home from home. We loved meeting and spending time with Linda and David again. Looking forward to a next visit”.
